Welcome

WHY SHOULD I BUILD A WEBSITE

Good question!  Why should you?!  Well let’s look at the costs for print Ad development and publication.

What do advertising companies charge to build and design an Ad?

To have an ad designed by most advertising firms, you are talking about a significant expense, anywhere from $2000 to $8500 depending on the work you need completed.

Steep right, forget that cost.  I’ll design it myself – Got a week of free time to devote to designing this?  Spend a week of your time designing an ad.  What’s a week of your time to your business, if it is like most small to medium size businesses, it’s worth lot.

Newspaper and printed Ads

Wall Street Journal Advertising Costs

Ad costs for the Wall Street Journal are steep, but you are tapping into a wealthy demographic. Perfect if you are selling islands or private jets, but not a good way to sell pens or toilet paper or services.

A full-page black and white ad in the Wall Street Journal National Edition will run you $164,300. A full-page color ad in the Wall Street Journal National Edition runs $210,300. Wall Street Journal advertising costs are a bit more reasonable if you go for only a half-page ad. $96,900 is the cost for Wall Street Journal ads that are black-and-white half pagers, whereas you'll pay $137,595 if you want a color ad.  These price metrics are from 2005, so they’ve probably gone down right?  Yeah sure.

Ok, not realistic for most of us in the small to medium size business world.

Local Newspaper Advertising Costs

If you live in a small town and advertise in your local newspaper, advertising costs really drop -- in comparison to the bigger national publications. A full-page local newspaper ad might run a $1,000 in your community.

Now that is more reasonable for most of us, however consider this, $1000.00 dollars to print an Ad that runs for maybe three weeks and to what audience?  Maybe ten thousand people, if that?  If they happen to turn to your Ad, if they happen to read it, if they happen to open the paper and who uses the newspaper to find services, or businesses in today?  People do, but the average person looks on the internet first, and spends an hour doing it on average to find the product or service they need.  Newspapers are just not the primary advertising source they use to be.

So let’s sum this up

So let’s say you design the Ad yourself, spend 20 hours on it, and printout 30 or so copies during development of it, research the newspaper to place it in and get a 3 week ½ page Ad.  What do you think the overall cost of that it?  So, half a week of your time, probably more, advertising, media, ink, etc.  Average costs are about $2500 to $4000 dollars, EVEN IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF and you don’t put much value on your time!  Oh, and you get three weeks of play from your effort.  Worth it? Not in my book.

Now think WEBSITE

The benefits are too numerous to detail, so let’s just bullet them

  • Average website life 5 YEARS!!!
  • Average cost $499.00 dollars
  • Average hits on a well marketed website per MONTH!  FIVE HUNDRED!  That’s not 500 casual readers, that’s 500 qualified customers looking for you or your products/ services.

Is that enough to prove, “Why build a WEBSITE?”

No?  Okay how about a few more…

  • Average new customers found monthly because of a well designed website
    • Service site – 5-15
    • Product site – 50-250

What would adding customers mean to your business?

  • Huge advertising space – You can advertise you, and your products, your services IN DETAIL!  No squeezing information down to fit in a half page Ad.
  • Can you say E-Commerce?
    • Can any other advertising media act as another location for your business?
    • Can any other advertising media automatically take in $$ for you?
